BC Wine Tourism
Launching April 1, 2018, Destination BC will support BC wine and food tourism by expanding its 2018 Explore BC campaign, which is focused on encouraging BC residents to travel within the province during the shoulder spring and fall seasons, and peak season where capacity exists.
By coordinating in-market advertising, including at points of distribution like the BC Liquor Stores (BCLS) and VQA wine shops, Destination BC will work closely with partners like the BC Wine Institute, the Ministry of Agriculture, and BC Restaurant and Food Association (BCFRA). These marketing efforts will align, amplify, and leverage each other’s messaging, to apply the network effect to maximize value and the efficient use of all resources.
The BC Government recently proclaimed April 2018 as BC Wine Month, including a special month-long promotion at all public liquor stores. Along with the proclamation of BC Wine Month in April, other government initiatives in support of BC’s wine industry include:
Increased opportunities to have BC wines in local BC Liquor Stores, including local wines from small and medium producers that are not typically available outside of the wineries.
Promotion throughout the month with storefront displays.
A greater variety of in-store tastings of BC wines.
Funding for an expansion of the Buy BC: Eat Drink Local campaign, to further develop partnerships between the BC Wine Institute and the British Columbia Restaurant and Food Services Association.
Funding to support the marketing of BC VQA wines to new international markets.
