‘You, Elevated’ Campaign Launches to Draw Washington & California Skiers to BC
|
Our team has officially launched this season's ski campaign! The campaign entices skiers in Washington and California to elevate their experience – and themselves – in BC’s big mountain terrain this winter. Running from Nov. 2022 - Feb. 2023 in key urban areas of those states, the ‘You, Elevated’ campaign showcases the moments that come to life when BC’s consistent snowfall, vast mountains, varied terrain, and vibrant mountain culture come together, uniquely positioning the province as the best place to deliver the life-affirming ski moments that passionate skiers seek.

Updated Emergency Messaging Guidance Now Available
|
Our team has updated the Emergency Messaging Guidance document for BC's tourism industry with seasonal information. The November 2022 document includes new fall/winter responsible travel infographics, and outlines official emergency information resources for BC, and suggested messaging, visuals, and actions for BC’s tourism industry during emergencies. It can help tourism businesses navigate questions, mitigate visitor concerns, and proactively manage perceptions during emergencies.

Destination Development Fund Now Available!
|
The BC Destination Development Fund is now live! As announced in February this year, the Province is investing up to $30 million in one-time grants to support continued recovery and resiliency of the tourism sector post pandemic. The Destination Development Fund aims to invest in tourism projects that:
✔Foster distinct and globally competitive destinations
✔Strengthen a year-round visitor economy
✔Increase community vibrancy and resident support for tourism
✔Support sustainability, accessibility and inclusion

Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program Now Live!
|
The Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) is a new grant launched by the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation (JERI). The fund provides up to $33 million to support rural economic development projects that promote economic capacity building, economic diversification, resilience, clean economy opportunities, and infrastructure development. Additionally, REDIP supports economic recovery and transition in communities affected by impacts in the forest sector.

The tourism sector stimulated job creation and generated $8.6 billion in provincial revenue in 2019, and $2.9 billion in 2020, despite the pandemic.

Tourism Events Program Funds Almost 100 BC Events
|
The Government of BC has provided funding to approximately 100 organizations through its Tourism Events Program (TEP) to build BC’s reputation as an events destination and increase visitation. In April 2022, the Province announced $4.8 million for TEP, marking its return after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic. TEP supports a wide range of tourism experiences, including arts, cultural or internationally recognized sporting competitions, bolstering awareness of events, attracting additional overnight visitors and increasing tourism benefits to communities.

Destination BC’s latest Resident Perception report shows that 46% of BC residents had an overnight trip within BC between July and September 2022.

2023 Camping Reservations Coming Soon!
|
Start planning your camping adventures for next year and mark your calendars for 7:00 am (PST) on Jan. 3, 2023 when many of BC Parks’ campsites will open for reservations. Campers can book a site four months ahead of their desired arrival date instead of the previous two-month booking window. Additionally, more campgrounds are being added to the new reservation service for the coming 2023 season.

Join The Invasive-Wise Tourism Program
|
BC’s tourism industry relies on the province’s amazing biodiversity and variety of healthy, natural landscapes. Invasive species damage ecosystems, landscapes and native wildlife – the very things that draw visitors here. Tourism operators are key partners in preventing the spread of invasive species. The Invasive-Wise Tourism program with the Invasive Species Council of BC (ISCBC) was developed to support tourism operators in adopting simple best management practices to prevent the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species, protect BC’s biodiversity and tourism industry. Marina and tourism operators across BC are being invited to join the program! In addition to receiving FREE training, support, and resources, becoming an Invasive-Wise Tourism partner is a great way for businesses to stand out.
