Destination BC has a well-developed program to work with travel media – journalists or outlets who specialize in telling travel and lifestyle stories – to create exposure for BC as a destination of choice. Travel media relations is an essential marketing channel to tell our brand story, build awareness, and encourage travellers to visit BC.

In the month of June 2025, we tracked 42 pieces of coverage for destinations in the province with an estimated 3.99 million combined views. Here are a few examples of those stories and how Destination BC supported them:

Forbes – This City Outside Vancouver Is Canada’s Hidden Foodie Hotspot

Through our US PR support, travel writer Taryn White was connected with Destination BC. In partnership with Tourism Richmond, we developed her BC itinerary, which resulted in a feature in Forbes. Taryn was so impressed by her visit to the Richmond Night Market that she plans to write an additional, dedicated piece on the experience in the future.

In June, travel writer Todd Plummer connected with Destination BC’s travel media team in search of fresh adventure tourism stories from across the province. The travel media team shared their expertise, highlighting BC’s world-class mountain biking, heli-adventures, and accessible experiences. His resulting article was featured in the New York Post. Todd has a longstanding relationship with Destination BC, and the travel media team have had the pleasure of hosting him in the province on numerous occasions.

Travel writer Melinda Fulmer’s request for the “best new hotels” reached our travel media team via TravMedia, a global network connecting the travel industry with media professionals. The team pitched Rosemead House, and Melinda later followed up requesting images, which Destination BC sourced and supplied for her New York Post feature.

AFAR – 11 Best Places to Travel in September

Each month, Destination BC’s travel media team pitches writer Mark Ellwood for AFAR’s “Best Places to Travel” column. This monthly request is shared with our regional and city DMOs and includes comprehensive details including accommodation suggestions, rack rates, air routes, images, and an “insider tip.” In May, the travel media team pitched Bella Coola and the Great Bear Rainforest as an exceptional September wildlife viewing destination. In June, Mark’s team requested images and additional details, and the travel media team was thrilled to see BC featured in this coveted list.

Islands – The Wine Capital Of Canada
