The start of a new year is a natural moment to pause, reflect, and look ahead. For the tourism industry in BC, it’s also an opportunity to build knowledge, strengthen skills, and prepare for the year to come. Destination BC’s refreshed Learning Centre brings together practical, easy-to-use resources to support tourism businesses and partners across the province, with an improved user experience that makes it easier to find and navigate relevant content, and apply learnings directly to your business. Updated navigation and user flow helps learners move more intuitively through topic areas, while existing, refreshed, and newly added resources reflect current industry priorities and evolving business needs.

Designed for tourism businesses, operators, destination management organizations, and other industry professionals, the Learning Centre is a centralized hub offering free learning content available 24/7 that supports business planning, marketing, experience development, and more.

What the Learning Centre Offers

It offers self-guided resources and tools designed to be practical and applicable, supporting learners as they build knowledge and skills over time. Resources are organized by topic and category to help surface relevant tools and guidance, whether you’re entering the tourism sector or building on your existing experience.

Key topic areas include:

  • BC Tourism Basics: Provides essential knowledge of how tourism works in BC and the interconnected industry that forms BC’s visitor economy.
  • Digital and Social Media Marketing: Practical guidance on building an online presence, managing content, and amplifying word of mouth marketing in today’s competitive digital landscape.
  • Tourism and Business Planning: Resources to support destination and tourism business decision-making for sustainable long-term growth.
  • Experience Development: Tools and insights to help create meaningful experiences, programs, and services for visitors.
  • Travel Trade and Travel Media: Information on working with travel trade and travel media partners to build awareness of tourism experiences and reach new markets.
  • Crisis and Emergency Planning: Materials to support preparedness, response, and recovery during unexpected events.
  • Accessible Tourism: Guidance to help businesses better understand accessibility and create more inclusive visitor experiences.
  • Destination BC Brand Resources: Access to Super, Natural British Columbia® brand family tools, guidance, and best practices.

In addition to written guides and articles, the suite of resources available includes videos, templates, case studies, and toolkits that can be applied directly to day-to-day operations.

Newly Added Resources

The Learning Centre continues to grow with the addition of new resources developed in response to emerging topics and areas of interest for BC’s tourism industry. Recent additions provide focused guidance in key areas, complementing existing content by offering updated perspectives, expanded tools, and additional learning formats.

One of the latest resources, Tourism 101: BC’s Tourism Ecosystem, outlines how BC’s tourism system is made up of many interconnected partners, each playing a role in supporting the visitor economy and contributing to communities across the province.

The Digital & Social Media Marketing subject area is currently being refreshed, with 10 updated resources now featured at the top of the subject page and further updates rolling out throughout 2026.

Other new resources will be added throughout the Learning Centre on an ongoing basis, and user navigation will continue to be reviewed and refined to improve usability, accessibility, and the overall experience of finding and practically using content.

Flexible Learning, On Your Schedule

The Learning Centre also hosts self-guided learning programs, including the Tourism Digital Academy, for those with intermediate knowledge, enabling learners to work through digital marketing topics at their own pace.

This flexible approach supports ongoing learning while accommodating the realities of running a tourism business.

Learning and Support Throughout the Year

The refreshed Learning Centre is designed to be a practical resource that can be revisited as needs evolve. With content that reflects current priorities and industry realities, it supports informed decision-making and continued learning throughout the year.

Whether your goal for the year is to build new skills, deepen existing knowledge, or support organizational priorities, visit the Learning Centre for resources that contribute to professional development and business success.
