Module 3 – Anatomy of A Search Engine Results Page

Regardless of the search engine being used, Search Engine Results Page (SERP) has many different categories of results on it:

Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP)

 

1. Paid Results

Results that have been paid for. Paid results can take a wide range of forms, and there are dozens of advertising formats that cater to various needs.

 

2. Local 3 Pack

A colourful, prominent listing that displays three businesses that the search engine considers to be the most relevant to both the search query and the searcher’s location, and are of the highest quality.

3. Knowledge Graph

Information boxes that provide a quick snapshot of information on a topic based on Google’s understanding of available content on the web.

 

4. Organic Result

The result most people would think of as a “regular result”. These are listings of web pages that appear based on the search engine’s algorithm.

 

The pages and content presented on the SERP for a particular search query, including what position your site ranks, is a result of many factors. Search results will vary depending on the search query/search intent. There are 4 key types: informational, navigational, commercial, and transactional. Learn more
