The Province of British Columbia has announced a new funding program which aims to enhance BC’s reputation as an events destination, foster economic growth and increase visitation across the province.

Building on the success of the former Tourism Events Program, the updated Destination Events Program will provide up to $5 million a year to support operational expenses and help communities host tourism, arts, cultural, and sport events that attract overnight visitors, create jobs, boost local economies, and foster tourism growth.

Through the program, Indigenous communities and organizations, not-for-profit organizations, businesses, and local governments hosting eligible events with a minimum operating budget of $150,000 may apply to receive funding for up to 10% of the total event budget, with a maximum of $200,000 per event.

Eligible events include:

  • Spectator Sport Events
  • Music, Film, Arts, and Cultural Festivals
  • Festivals held on farms, orchards or vineyards
  • Fairs, Rodeos and Exhibitions

Applications will be accepted from April 7 to May 5, 2025, for events occurring between June 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.

For full eligibility criteria and application details, visit: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/tourism-immigration/tourism-resources/tourism-funding-programs/destination-events-program
