Destination BC has a well-developed program to work with travel media – journalists or outlets who specialize in telling travel and lifestyle stories – to create exposure for BC as a destination of choice. Travel media relations is an essential marketing channel to tell our brand story, build awareness, and encourage travellers to visit BC.

Here some stories from January 2026 and how Destination BC supported them:

 

The Telegraph – The world’s greatest wildlife holidays for 2026

Travel writer Richard Madden visited British Columbia in June 2025 on an itinerary organized by Journeyscape. The trip included Vancouver Island and the Great Bear Rainforest, with hosting support from Knight Inlet Lodge and Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge. Destination BC supported the visit through contributions toward accommodation and car rental, resulting in this wildlife-focused feature in The Telegraph.

 

National Geographic – This Canadian ‘desert’ is British Columbia’s secret winter oasis

National Geographic writer Vivian Chung visited Osoyoos in October 2024 on a media trip organized by Watermark Beach Resort. Destination BC supported the visit through the Visiting Journalist Program, resulting in this feature highlighting the South Okanagan’s desert landscape, vineyards, and year-round travel appeal.

 

Northwest Travel Magazine – Winter Adventures in B.C.’s Cariboo Chilcotin

Destination BC hosted writer Adam Sawyer on a group press trip to Nature’s Heartland in February 2025. The itinerary highlighted winter experiences including ice fishing in Lone Butte, wildlife viewing near Williams Lake, and the region’s historic sled dog mail run tradition, resulting in this feature on winter adventure.

Destination BC maintains an ongoing relationship with Outside contributor Jen Murphy, including hosting her in Revelstoke last year and regularly sharing story ideas through The Pitch media mailer. This engagement contributed to coverage highlighting Revelstoke among the world’s top small adventure towns.
