Destination BC has a well-developed program to work with travel media – journalists or outlets who specialize in telling travel and lifestyle stories – to create exposure for BC as a destination of choice. Travel media relations is an essential marketing channel to tell our brand story, build awareness, and encourage travellers to visit BC.

Here some stories from January 2026 and how Destination BC supported them:

The Australian Financial Review – UNESCO’s newest City of Gastronomy isn’t where you think

Australian Financial Review

Travel writer Alexandra Carlton joined Destination BC’s group press trip, Savouring Gifts of the Okanagan Valley, to explore the Okanagan Valley within the broader Thompson Okanagan region. The itinerary showcased the area’s rich agricultural roots and evolving culinary identity, from award-winning wineries and immersive tasting experiences to Indigenous cultural storytelling and dark sky initiatives. With a focus on terroir-driven food, wine and culture, the visit highlighted why Kelowna has been recognized as Canada’s first UNESCO City of Gastronomy. Destination BC supported the visit through group press trip coordination, resulting in this feature in Australian Financial Review.

Sierra – Your Travel Decisions Can Have a Positive Impact

Sierra Magazine

Travel writer Amy Brecount White joined a Destination BC group press trip through Northern British Columbia, exploring Prince George, Valemount and Mount Robson Provincial Park. The itinerary highlighted low-impact, community-connected travel experiences, from guided visits in Chun T’oh Whudujut Provincial Park (Ancient Forest) with Lheidli T’enneh Elders to wildlife viewing and alpine adventures in the Canadian Rockies. With a focus on conservation, Indigenous knowledge and responsible tourism, the trip showcased how travel in BC can positively impact people and place.

Escapism – The Escapism Guide to Vancouver

Escapism Magazine

Travel writer Molly Codyre visited Vancouver to explore its vibrant and diverse culinary scene, with a focus on neighbourhood-driven dining and globally influenced flavours. Her itinerary highlighted standout restaurants, markets and local food experiences that reflect the city’s strong connection to fresh, regional ingredients. Destination BC supported the visit with car rental and itinerary coordination, resulting in this Vancouver-focused food guide in Escapism.

Travel writer Brent Rose visited British Columbia in January to explore several of the province’s leading ski destinations, building on an existing relationship first established during Destination BC’s California deskside meetings. His itinerary included visits with key ski partners across the province, highlighting the diversity of terrain, snow conditions and resort experiences that position BC as a premier winter playground. Destination BC supported the trip through partner coordination and background information to inform storytelling, resulting in this ski-focused feature in Condé Nast Traveler.
