Destination BC has a well-developed program to work with travel media – journalists or outlets who specialize in telling travel and lifestyle stories – to create exposure for BC as a destination of choice. Travel media relations is an essential marketing channel to tell our brand story, build awareness, and encourage travellers to visit BC.

Here some stories from March 2026 and how Destination BC supported them:

Matador Network – Where to Eat, Play, and Stay During the 2026 Vancouver World Cup Matches

Matador Network

Travel writer Suzie Dundas explored Vancouver in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup 2026™, highlighting food, outdoor experiences, and neighbourhood stays for visiting fans. The story was developed following a direct request for supporting imagery from the journalist. The Travel Media team quickly fulfilled the request using assets from the BC FIFA 2026 Media Assets Library, enabling timely coverage of Vancouver as a host destination.

Mental Floss – 4 Places Where You Can Hike to Dinosaur Fossils in Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Geopark

Travel writer Mary Beth Skylis was hosted by Destination BC in July 2025 in partnership with Northern BC Tourism as part of The Great Wilderness program. In Tumbler Ridge, she explored the region’s 200-million-year fossil history at the Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation and viewed 97-million-year-old dinosaur footprints in situ. She also participated in a multi-day heli-glamping experience deep in Northern BC’s backcountry, including helicopter access, guided hiking, and stargazing. The itinerary included stays at The Hideaway and exploration of the UNESCO Global Geopark, including the Shipyard/Titanic formations and Tunnel Mountain.

BBC News – Five countries that are actively welcoming travellers in 2026

The Travel Media team received this inquiry from Lindsey Galloway via the TravMedia portal. Destination BC’s Corporate Communications team provided timely and detailed responses to support the journalist’s research. This resulted in coverage in BBC News, one of the world’s largest public service news organizations.

Men’s Journal – This 700-Mile Ski Road Trip Might Be the Best Powder Chase in the World

https://www.mensjournal.com/travel/canadas-powder-highway-ski-road-trip-itinerary

This feature resulted from previous hosted press trips to British Columbia’s ski regions in March 2023 and March 2024. The resulting story highlights the Powder Highway as a premier ski road trip destination. It showcases BC’s alpine landscapes, resort experiences, and winter adventure offerings to a large international audience.

New Zealand Herald – Things to do in Victoria when it rains, from harbour walks to HAVN Spa

Destination BC supported media participation from the New Zealand Herald through a ski fam involving Whitewater and Red Mountain in February 2026. Prior to the group itinerary, travel editor Sarah Pollock extended her trip to Victoria for dedicated coverage. The resulting feature highlights Victoria as a year-round coastal destination with rainy-day experiences including harbour walks and HAVN Spa.
