Destination BC has a well-developed program to work with travel media – journalists or outlets who specialize in telling travel and lifestyle stories – to create exposure for BC as a destination of choice. Travel media relations is an essential marketing channel to tell our brand story, build awareness, and encourage travellers to visit BC.

Here some stories from May 2026 and how Destination BC supported them:

15 of the Best Places in the World for Food Right Now
Lisa Kadane, National Geographic
5.38M Unique Visits
Valleys & Vineyards
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/best-of-the-world-2026/article/best-food-destinations

Kelowna was recognized as one of the world’s top food destinations in this National Geographic feature, which highlights destinations shaping the future of culinary travel. The inclusion reflects Kelowna’s status as Canada’s first UNESCO City of Gastronomy. Destination BC has built a strong relationship with Kelowna-based writer Lisa Kadane through multiple Visiting Journalist Program itineraries, requests for information and media events, helping to keep British Columbia’s food and wine stories top of mind for international audiences.

One of North America’s Best National Parks Is 1 Hour From Banff—With Waterfalls, Clear Lakes, and Scenic Mountain Views
Maryam Siddiqi, Travel + Leisure
10.1M Unique Visits
Birthplace of Adventure
https://www.travelandleisure.com/yoho-national-park-canada-guide-11980687

This feature highlights Yoho National Park’s dramatic waterfalls, turquoise lakes, and mountain landscapes, positioning the park as a must-visit destination in the Canadian Rockies. Although Destination BC did not host the writer, the Kootenay Rockies Tourism travel media team supported the story by connecting Maryam Siddiqi with local sources in the region, including representatives from Tourism Golden and Truffle Pigs Lodge. The resulting coverage showcases one of British Columbia’s iconic national parks to Travel + Leisure’s global audience and supports awareness of the province’s world-class outdoor experiences.

American Tourists Get Hip to Canada’s Charms
Brandon Presser, Bloomberg

19.4M Unique Visits
The Infinite Coast
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-04-21/travel-to-canada-grows-thanks-to-american-travelers-flocking-north

This feature resulted from a March 2026 media visit to British Columbia supported by Destination BC. When Brandon Presser reached out with a last-minute request, the Travel Media team quickly coordinated an itinerary that ultimately became a major Bloomberg feature examining the growing appeal of Canada for American travellers. British Columbia is featured prominently throughout the story, with experiences on Vancouver Island helping to illustrate why more U.S. visitors are choosing Canada for their vacations. The resulting coverage provides valuable insights into travel trends while positioning BC as a welcoming, accessible destination for American audiences.
