Details from this BC Government news release:

Anne Kang, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, has issued the following statement as Monday, May 11, 2026, marks one month to go until the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“Next month, British Columbia will step onto the world stage as Vancouver hosts the FIFA World Cup 2026, and the excitement is building in every corner of our province.

“This is the largest single-sport event on the planet with a massive global audience. More than 350,000 fans will fill BC Place for seven unforgettable matches, including two Canadian men’s national team matches. But this moment is about more than what happens on the pitch, it’s about the energy, pride and opportunity it creates across our entire province.

“Right now, that energy is already taking hold. From the North to Vancouver Island, and from the Interior to the Lower Mainland, communities are gearing up to celebrate. Our government is proud to be supporting 32 celebrations throughout British Columbia, bringing people together to experience the thrill of the World Cup close to home, in ways that are inclusive, accessible and full of community spirit.

“We are especially proud that the seven FIFA World Cup 2026 matches are being played on the shared territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil‑Waututh First Nations. Visitors will experience the rich cultures, traditions and languages of these Nations, whose leadership and partnership are central to delivering a welcoming and meaningful World Cup experience. This is an extraordinary opportunity to showcase their stories, artistry and living cultures on a truly global stage.

“We’re also excited to welcome six stops of the FIFA Canada Celebrates tour right here in B.C., bringing live match viewings, music, culture, food and soccer directly into our communities. These events will spark connection, create lasting memories and ensure the excitement of the World Cup is felt far beyond the stadium walls.

“And in Vancouver, all eyes will be on Science World, where its iconic dome will be transformed into the official FIFA World Cup 2026 match ball, Trionda, an unforgettable centrepiece anchoring Vancouver on the world stage and creating a must-see destination for fans from across the globe. Visitors will also be able to marvel at the Soccer and Technology exhibit from the FIFA Museum.

“When the world tunes in, they won’t just see world-class soccer — they’ll see who we are. They’ll see our breathtaking landscapes, our vibrant and diverse communities, and our creativity, innovation and ambition. They’ll see a province that is proud, welcoming and ready.

“Through our Look West strategy, we are turning this global spotlight into real opportunities, boosting tourism, supporting jobs and opening doors for investment that will benefit people in British Columbia in the years ahead.

“We want everyone to be part of this moment, whether you’re in the stands at BC Place, joining the crowds at FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver or celebrating in your own community. This is a once-in-a-generation event, and it belongs to all of us.

“Next month, the world will arrive on our doorstep, and when it does, they’ll see the very best of British Columbia. Our places. Our passion. Our people. And our world-class hospitality.

“Let’s show them who we are, because this is more than a tournament — it’s our beautiful moment.”
