After a long career with the provincial government, Tourism BC, and Destination BC, Richard Porges has decided to step down as President and CEO, effective November 6, 2026, after six years as CEO.,
Richard joined Tourism BC’s research department in 1999 and moved into progressively senior roles with Tourism BC, the provincial government, and Destination BC. He joined Destination BC’s executive team in 2013, became Acting CEO in August 2020 and was appointed President and CEO in August 2021.
During his tenure, Richard led Destination BC through the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery. He also led two three-year corporate strategies and initiatives including the Iconics strategy, Destination BC’s first diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility framework, Our Commitments to Truth and Reconciliation, and Guiding Principles developed with Indigenous Tourism BC.
“It has been a privilege to work with Destination BC’s team and tourism partners across the province,” said Richard. “I am proud of what we have achieved together and confident in the organization’s ability to continue supporting a strong, resilient and sustainable visitor economy.”
Richard will continue to lead Destination BC until November 6. Destination BC’s programs, services, and industry partnerships will continue as usual, through the transition.
