Destination BC is inviting tourism businesses across the province to participate in the newly launched Tourism Climate Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability Survey, which aims to establish a comprehensive understanding of sustainability practices and climate preparedness within the industry.

Supporting the BC Climate Resiliency Initiative’s project to develop a sustainability & climate adaptation data framework, the survey aims to gather information directly from tourism businesses on their climate risk preparedness, environmental sustainability practices, and investments in these areas. This data will help create a provincial baseline that can be used to monitor changes and progress over the course of the BCTCRI project.

The survey is open to all tourism businesses in British Columbia that provide paid services to travellers, including accommodations, food and beverage providers, transportation services, attractions, and other tourism-related businesses. Participation from a broad range of businesses is encouraged to enable region-, community-, and sector-specific reporting and to ensure a comprehensive snapshot. This survey will take 5-10 minutes to complete and should only be completed by one person who is familiar with operational practices in climate adaptation and environmental sustainability per business.

The results of the Tourism Climate Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability Survey will be shared through multiple channels, including:

  • Provincial Report: A comprehensive report summarizing key findings across the province will be developed, establishing a baseline understanding of sustainability and climate preparedness within BC’s tourism industry. This report will provide valuable insights to inform future strategies and initiatives.
  • Regional and Community Reports: Where participation levels allow, customized reports will be created for specific regions and communities. These reports will enable businesses to benchmark their sustainability and climate adaptation efforts against their local and regional peers.
  • Sector-Specific Insights: If a sufficient number of responses are received from various tourism sectors—such as accommodations, food and beverage, attractions, and transportation—the project team will provide tailored insights to help businesses understand trends and best practices within their specific sector.
  • Public Dissemination: Aggregated, anonymized survey results will be made publicly available to support industry-wide collaboration and knowledge sharing around sustainability and climate adaptation.

All businesses that complete the survey will have the opportunity to receive the final report(s). Participating businesses will also be entered into a draw for a pass to a BC tourism conference.

The survey closed on February 21, 2025.

For more information about the survey, watch this webinar or visit the Sustainability & Climate Adaptation Data Framework page on Destination BC’s website.
