VANCOUVER – Destination BC will provide $1 million in annual funding across British Columbia through its new Destination Development Catalyst Fund, designed to support the implementation of key tourism projects identified in planning area 10-year Destination Development Strategies and Action Plans across the province.
Destination BC, together with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Regional Destination Marketing Organizations, has led province-wide destination development planning efforts to support the long-term competitiveness of BC’s tourism sector. Around the province, 10-year destination development strategies are being developed to guide the strategic and responsible development of compelling destination experiences that will create year-round competitive strength for the sector and spread the benefits of tourism to communities around BC.
The Destination Development Catalyst Fund, launching at the end of August 2019, will help jumpstart implementation of these strategic plans to create, expand, and elevate remarkable travel experiences for British Columbians and visitors alike. The Catalyst Fund will provide resources to help prepare grant applications, business cases, feasibility studies, or other activities so that more tourism development priorities can successfully access project funding from a range of economic and infrastructure development programs such as the Rural Dividend Fund, as well as Western Economic Development and Regional Economic Development Trusts. Funded projects could include, but are not limited to:
Long term benefits of the Catalyst Fund may include increasing destination offerings in underdeveloped areas, enhancing industry and community collaboration, and increasing private sector investment in BC.
The Fund will also assist communities to grow and manage tourism through destination development, a priority action in the Province’s newly announced Strategic Framework for Tourism in British Columbia 2019-2021.
