Destination BC and Tourism Industry Partners Showcase 12 Destination Development Case Studies from Across BC

To showcase the social, cultural, and economic benefits of tourism initiatives that enable communities across BC to flourish, Destination BC, in collaboration with tourism industry partners at regional and local levels, is launching an inspiring new collection of 12 destination development case studies that highlight innovative tourism practices and their positive impact on visitors and residents.

This series features two projects from each of the six tourism regions in BC, showcasing stories of community destination development achieved through collaborative local and regional partnerships. These projects highlight the positive impacts of thoughtful destination development for BC communities—environmentally, economically, socially, culturally, and recreationally.

Together, they take you on an engaging journey through impactful storytelling about communities and local partners, exploring the multifaceted benefits of destination development and creating environments where residents and visitors can thrive. The case studies cover the following projects:

  3. Cross-Country Ski Trails in the Thompson Okanagan

  5. Expanding Mountain Bike Infrastructure in the Thompson Okanagan

  8. Indigenous Voices of Vancouver Island
  9. Morfee Mountain Ridgeline Trail
  10. Mt. Abriel Trail Network
  11. Nemiah Valley Lodge
  12. Tumbler Ridge Global Geopark

This compilation offers a rich tapestry of success stories that have enhanced visitor experiences and contributed to significant socio-cultural enrichment and economic vitality for communities across the province.

Together, they demonstrate how sustainable practices and inclusive community engagement lead to thriving destinations, highlighting the value of embracing destination development as a conduit for positive change and the benefits of designing community destination development initiatives with tourism organizations, community leaders, local entrepreneurs, cultural advocates, and recreation enthusiasts in mind.
