Sweeping valleys, seaside tranquillity, and the ability to access expansive nature from our doorstep – these are just a few of the many reasons British Columbians shared for why they’re grateful to call this province home. Destination BC has announced the ten lucky winners of the Share Your Love for BC Contest, an engagement and advocacy initiative for British Columbia residents to re-ignite their pride of place, share their love for the place we call home, and keep the magic of BC’s diverse destinations and experiences top of mind.

Throughout the contest period (February 22-March 26), Destination BC received 11,244 entries from residents across the province who shared their stories and photos about what makes BC so special to them – from the diversity of our cultures, to the vibrancy of our culinary experiences and moments of solitude found in our mountain ranges.

The following participants from around BC were selected by random draw, and have each won $500 in gift cards or vouchers to spend at up to three local businesses within their own communities, to further support Destination BC’s Stay Local, Support Local initiative while COVID-19 travel restrictions are in place:

  • Karla Brandt
  • Robin McCombe
  • Walberto Prens
  • Lori Moore
  • Earl Jenkins
  • Allison Barton Youssef
  • Tristan Pope
  • Alicia MacGregor
  • Burt Bergmann
  • Shendra Brisdon

For more contest information, or to view a selection of the photos and stories submitted, please visit ShareYourLoveforBC.com.

Since November 7, Destination BC has paused all marketing promoting travel in BC, to help support the Provincial Health Officer’s initial recommendation – now an order – regarding leisure travel.  All British Columbians are required to avoid non-essential travel, outside of their Regional Zone, until midnight on May 25. During that time, efforts have shifted to encouraging BC residents to follow the current guidelines and orders, stay in their own communities, and support local businesses.

Maya Lange, VP of Global Marketing, Destination BC

Our hearts were warmed by the passion that people showed in sharing their memories about the places, moments and parts of BC that are uniquely special to them. From alpine meadows in Glacier National Park to northern lights in the Kootenays, from illumination festivals in downtown Vancouver to grizzlies in their natural habitat and from horse ranches in the Chilcotin to golf courses in Northern BC, this contest showed us that we British Columbians truly appreciate the beauty that BC has to offer. Thank you to everyone who participated and to those who helped make this contest a success.
