WORKING EFFECTIVELY WITH INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

 

Through collaborative consultation with tourism partners and in an effort to support industry with evolving community-based needs, Destination BC and BCDMOA are pleased to offer the Working Effectively with Indigenous Peoples Workshop in partnership with Indigenous Corporate Training Inc.

Customized for Community Destination Management or Marketing Organizations (CDMO), Experience Sector Associations and Visitor Centres, this training is designed to build awareness of indigenous peoples and support your organization with building relationships with indigenous communities and businesses in British Columbia.

 

This training will provide a safe environment in which to ask questions and get the help you need to build:

 

Indigenous Awareness

    • Understanding how history impacts Indigenous Peoples
    • Understanding how current Indigenous issues impact Indigenous communities
    • Understanding Indigenous self-government
    • Understanding the constitutional, political and legal context of Indigenous issues
    • Understanding how Indigenous and western world views impact decision-making

Indigenous Relations

    • Understanding how to cultivate Indigenous relationships
    • Understanding business reasons for working with Indigenous Peoples
    • How to begin to consult with Indigenous Peoples
    • Fear of saying or doing the wrong thing
    • How to manage risk when cultivating Indigenous relationships

 

This full day (6 hour) training includes 2 x 15 minute and 1 hour lunch breaks.

Delivered by: Flavio Caron, Indigenous Corporate Training Inc.

Capacity: 30 Participants/session

 

Please note this workshop is only open to BC-based CDMOs, Experience Sector Associations and Visitor Centres. Due to a limited capacity, a maximum of five individuals per organization, for all workshop dates, will be accepted. Any additional staff can email us to be placed on a waitlist. Individuals are only eligible to register for one location/date.
