  • Destination BC Partner Content Checklist

Destination BC Partner Content Checklist

With so much content being created across the province, this checklist can help improve the likelihood that your content can be shared and amplified by Destination BC and our tourism partners.

Content Checklist:

  • Content aligns with one or more of the Super, Natural British Columbia family of brands.

  • Any person who is recognizable within your content (photo or video) must have signed the Destination BC model release.

  • Content aligns with at least one of Destination BC’s Marketing Programs. Email [email protected] to obtain a copy of our Global Marketing Plan.

  • Content follows the following best practices:

    • Videos are optimized for the channels where they will be used. Consider vertical formats for social content, strong opening moments, captions or on-screen text where appropriate, and content that works with or without sound.
    • Appropriate music, talent, location, photographer, and other third-party rights and permissions are in place for the intended uses.
    • Photos and videos do not contain watermarks.
    • Marketing clichés and overly promotional language are avoided or used sparingly.
    • Content is factual and free of grammar and spelling errors.
    • Content is descriptive, useful, and specific, helping travellers understand what makes a place or experience distinct.
    • Content reflects places, experiences, and communities accurately and authentically, and does not create a misleading impression of what a visitor can expect.
    • Content featuring Indigenous Peoples, cultures, communities, stories, or experiences is created and shared respectfully, with appropriate permissions, cultural context, and community involvement where applicable.

  • Content adheres to the following safety and responsibility best practices:

    • Lifejackets or PFDs are visible on all persons in a vessel on the water (paddleboard, canoe, kayak, boat, etc.).
    • Skiers and snowmobilers are wearing backpacks if they are in a backcountry area.
    • Helmets on skiers, snowmobilers, climbers, bikers, and horseback riders (can be a cowboy hat).
    • No direct (glass-to-mouth) consumption of alcohol is visible.
    • Dogs are in areas where they are permitted and are kept on-leash where required. Off-leash dogs are shown only in designated off-leash areas (Provincial, National, and public parks).
    • Tents are in a legal camping area and adhere to Leave No Trace principles i.e. no tents on vegetation).
    • Hikers are on designated hiking/walking trails.
    • Mountain bikers are on a sanctioned or designated mountain biking trail.
    • Campfires are in a legal fire area and there is no fire ban in place when sharing or promoting content in real-time.
    • Does not feature unsafe activities (i.e. backflips off rocks or cliffs).
    • Does not feature illegal activities (i.e. drinking alcohol in public places).
    • If content is shot with a drone, the content captured is in legal area for shooting with drone and was captured with all proper permissions and licences.
    • It is an actual place/experience a traveller to BC could go to/have.
    • Wildlife is viewed responsibly, without feeding or disturbance, and from a respectful distance. Marine mammals must be shown in accordance with Fisheries and Oceans Canada guidelines.
    • Seasonal and geographic growth are considered; lesser known areas are prioritized.

    Tips:
