The Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Sustainability Council formed under the leadership of the VCM tourism region in April 2021. The objective of the council is to improve sustainability practices of the tourism industry and partners in the region.

Over the past year, the VCM Sustainability Council has been hard at work with guidance from GreenStep Solutions to identify non-sustainable practices in the region as well as areas of alignment, gaps and opportunities through a destination sustainability diagnosis process. The result of this process has been the development of a VCM Sustainability Council Sustainability Action Plan. The council has formed sub-committees to move the key focus areas forward.

Key focus areas of the action plan include:

  1. Enhancing resident and community engagement and prosperity through tourism and the visitor economy,
  2. Improving industry adoption of sustainable and responsible practices,
  3. Promoting respectful and sustainable visitor practices within communities, natural spaces, and cultural sites.

We are thrilled to launch our latest industry resource, the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Sustainability Playbook, created for tourism businesses and destinations.

The Playbook guides users through a step-by-step process of measuring baseline performance and creating an action plan for improvement. Designed using global best practices and input from regional partners, the playbook includes tools and industry resources for quick implementation into your operations.

Whether you are a team of one or many, the playbook will set your organization up for success on its sustainability journey.
